As our moto “A Dark Narrative Music” implies, this night of Halloween is probably our favourite season to play our music. the crowd is expecting something black, something spooky , and we love to do that. to make an horror score danceable or to bring Gloomies atmospheres in our productions. so, we love to come with disguise, make up , with a new costume each year and we love to prepare something special, a live set we’re gonna play only one time , including some horror additions to our classic techno live acts.

First, Running Man is inspired by the dystopian vision and subtle eye for detail of Paul Michael Glaser’s classic 80s thriller. A nod to one of the The Badgers’ favourite films, where vintage synths provide the soundtrack to futuristic TV violence, cheap choreography, and muscles.
Then, Become A Star is a poignant title. In today’s media-dominated world, some risk everything as they strive for fame. This track is a tribute to good friend and member of the Freiburg techno family, Aaron; who was sadly taken too soon. Aaron’s star shines on.

Because maybe not all of you have already seen the Movie which is the base of our inspiration, we created a Youtube preview to introduce to you the universe of this Thriller.
It shows a bit the vision of a modern and ultra violent “bread and games” for the Future, where killing or be killed on television is a Lifetime Achievement. Based on a science fiction novel by Stephen King, first published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman in 1982, we love both this book and the Movie so much.

Die in Kanada geborene Künstlerin griechischer
Abstammung hat ihren Lebens- und Schaffensmittelpunkt in die so Kreativmetropole Berlin verlegt, von wo aus sie Gigs in angesagten Clubs auf der ganzen Welt sowie auf Festivals wie dem Melt, der
Fusion oder dem kroatischen Hartera wahrnimmt. Als Tochter einer Sängerin kam sie schon in jungen Jahren mit dem Musikbusiness in Berührung und fand ihren Weg schließlich über die Arbeit als Performance Artist, Piercerin und Veranstalterin hinter den Decks, wo sie bis heute mit ihren hypnotisch-elektronischen Kreationen begeistert.
Unterstützt wird sie an diesem Abend vom Produzenten-Duo The Badgers, die ihren vielseitigen Sound selbst als “Dark Narrative Music”
beschreiben. Als Live-Act setzen Yannick und Joël, die sich schon seit Schulzeiten kennen, auf technoid und groovy Tunes, die jedoch nie ihre Tauglichkeit für die Tanzfläche verfehlen. Klingt nach einem Abend voller so kreativer Energie!

Killing Time the Small Berlin Piece lost in the middle of the clean and Proper Australian City. And of course, we don’t need to explain the Victorian Opera reference you all know.
When we Played in Melbourne (see The Badgers Australia Tour ) , we had some free time to work on some ideas in our hotel Room, and we reused here all those elements taken from our trip. Finally, the 3 tracks here have been started to be produced in Australia. Therefore we wanted to make that release sounding Aussies.

From the record store to the Studio
At the beginning we were only DJs and we used to play vinyl records and cds. Now we are working as producers but we never forget from where we are coming from. Our Nickname is from this time, our influences are from this time. During this period, it was played loud with high tempo, it was dark, it was the techno music of 2000.
The fact that at this time the electronic music was less segmented brought us with a certain nostalgia to create our first album production with all these atmospheres. Based nowadays on Stuttgart and Frankfurt in Germany, we are still searching for the perfect Label for this project… And we still have the dream that one day we will release on vinyl records.

This newsletter won’t be our portfolio, but
it will a medium to share with you. The possibility to give you back, to be thankful for you support to us as artists.
If you lump together horror movies, fetish, Alsatian charm and impressive passion for music, it may look like the producer duo THE BADGERS. On the stage it appears in terms of two dark-dressed statures, who like to act out their anonymity behind masks and handle the machines delicately.
After first contact at highschool in 2000, a close friendship between Yannick and Joel began – soulmates, whose connection is based on the deep love to the music. Always the same 6 vinyl records were the basic of the lessons in Joel’s garage, before a long lasting residency in an Eastern French house bar has started. Self-organised events in various locations and the desire for realization of their personal musical ideas followed. Crowned with success!
Even a work-related territorial separation between Stuttgart (Joels current home) and Shanghai haven’t prevented to reach some No.1 chart positions within a short time. Until their first release in 2009, it took less than one year. With the “Deep Dark Mood EP” on Creepy Fingers Rec., as well the “Frozen Nipple EP” on Killing Machine Rec., they climbed to the top of the Beatport Minimal Charts in 2012. Mostly as Live-Act, they are touring since there in European clubs and follow principles like not playing unreleased tracks. Nevertheless, not even one performance sounds like the other, as they play and mix the loops and patterns from their tracks spontaneously – and always with a surprise effect.
May you call them musical landscape painters. Foggy valleys are built through melancholic and romantical sounds, where fantasy creatures and monsters are shaped. In their imagination, black and red light reflections swirl around. But the most meaningful influence pulsates around the gothic theme and comes from the fetish universe. The weakness for sadomasochism and bondage gears is hardly mistakable. The musical structures tough are largely grounded on the puristic loop culture of German minimal and techno. Typically as well, industrial and mechanic sounding elements go along, no less than French Electro.
Obviously many other artists are impressed by their diverse influencies, so the list of remixed producers and remixers gets more and more extended. This queue is leaded by producers like Johannes Heil, Patrick Lindsey, Danton Eeprom, Miro Pajic, Re:Axis, Andy Martin, Octave and more. The suitable voice to the dark sounds is often contributed by Berlin based artist Mz Sunday Luv. No wonder that their tracks meanwhile are frequently supported by acts like Richie Hawtin, Troy Pierce, Jennifer Cardini, Slam, Luciano etc.
